Dennis B. Sather, 75, Fargo, ND died Sunday, August 23, 2009 in his home. Dennis B. Sather was born on October 2, 1933 to Burt and Florence (Aspengren) Sather in Hawley, MN. After his education in Ulen, MN, he began working at Simonson Furniture in Moorhead, MN. He worked next at the Armour Meat Company in West Fargo, ND until he enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. He married Marlyce Newton on May 17, 1952 in South Dakota. He worked for Leo Johnson Furniture delivering furniture and then trained in molding at the foundry. He started working for the City of Fargo in the Central Garage as a mechanic and retired in 1991 after 35 years. He and Marlyce wintered in Mesa, AZ for 14 years. He belonged to the American Veterans and the Moose Lodge where he served as treasurer for a time. He raced stock and sprint cars for 13 years (1952-1967) all over the United States and Canada. He was a former winner of the Tri-state Championship. He was known as “Dennis the Menace” and “In Orbit Satellite Sather” at the racetrack. He was inducted into the River City Speedway Hall of Fame in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Marlyce; children: Kim M. Kinslow (Debra) Moorhead, MN, Nancy K. Soberg (Allen) West Fargo, ND, Lorraine D. Barsness, Fargo, ND, David S. Sather (Debra) Santa Rosa, CA, Dennis B. Sather, Jr., Fargo, ND, Mary J. Fleck (Jessie), Pine City, MN; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings: Bernice Berg, West Fargo, ND, Lyle Sather (Shirley) Moorhead, MN, and Carol Pollack, Moorhead, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman Sather, Orville Sather; and beloved granddaughter, Stacy Mae Sandeen. Special thanks to Dan Bauske for all his help throughout the years. Funeral: 10:00 am on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service. Entombment, Riverside Mausoleum, Fargo, ND.
