  8. I’m saddened to learn of Derek’s passing. He has been our neighbor, and, I dare say, friend, for the last eight years. I always appreciated his concern for myself, my family and pets, as well as the way he offered his help to any situation that he thought we could benefit from. His passion for the animals, upkeep, and overall well-being of our neighborhood, always reminded me of how fortunate I was to have befriended a person like Derek. Rest in peace man. I will never forget you.

I recently received word of Derek’s passing. Words cannot express how sorry I was to hear this news. Even though we have not kept in touch over the years, the 4 of us spent a lot of time together during our college years at Morehead and Dianne and I were at the hospital with you shortly after Derek was born. From the bottom of my heart, you have my most sincere condolences and should you ever want to reach out, you can reach me at dflack@hotmail.com.

  11. Derek, I’m just now learning of your passing… This is such a tragedy. We had some great times on the tearing up the streets of Charleston on our skateboards. You were incredible at it. I also remember the many hilarious flip animations you put in our notepads in the dorm. Always a cut up. This world will miss your creativity and care, brother. Until next we meet.

    • Derek, my dear just learning too of your passing. I keep looking at your picture and recalling what a kind, good young man you were . It wasn’t always easy.
I’ll always remember you visiting me in Charleston while you were at COC. Our dinners together and conversations we had. You were very wise.
It sounds like you had a great life in Fargo with people who loved you so.
My heart breaks. You were a precious step son .
      Fly peacefully
      Jennifer Kohn (formally Crook)
