Don Scott passed away peacefully Oct 3rd after complications from a fall at the age of 84.
A lifelong resident of Fargo, Don was born Oct 19, 1935 to Lindsay and Angeline Scott. He graduated from Shanley High School in 1953 and attended the University of Wisconsin Graduate school of Banking. His banking career started with Dakota Bank in 1956 and spanned 39 years. He was the executive director of the Alex Stern Foundation at the time of his death. Retirement from banking gave him more time to pursue his other interests: golfing, fishing, riding his green bicycle and wintering in Mesa, AZ. He was also a supporter of the live arts, a passion he shared with his longtime companion, Colleen Riley.
Don is survived by his daughter Stacy (David), son Craig, grandchildren Ashley, Jamie (Kevin) and Joseph (Blythe) and his brother Kenneth (Nancy). He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Duane (Doris). Don was a ‘people person’ which served him well in his career and retirement. He always had a smile and a joke to share. He will be sorely missed by family, colleagues and friends. A private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery. An announcement for a celebration of life will be made Spring/Summer 2021. Memorials preferred to the Alex Stern Foundation.

So sorry to hear of Don’s passing. Worked with Don for many years at Dakota Bank. Great friend. I remember his
crazy laugh and green antique bike he would ride to work. Kay & I made him a real rubber tree plant for his 60th birthday that he got a kick out of. RIP Don

Don, we will miss you. It seemed as we got older, we saw each other more at the Paradiso taco bar than anywhere else. I know we came for the margaritas – we are assuming you came for the tacos!

At the office, we will miss Don’s smile, support and witty one-liners. We will also miss the sound of the typewriter that he used to communicate with the nonprofit world. We will remember fondly how he took pride in wearing his DMF and Lend A Hand Up sweaters. And, as a neighbor, I will miss seeing Don speed walk around Praieriewood. Hugs to all his family and friends.
Don was such an incredibly lovely, sweet and thoughtful man. I am very sad that he has passed. He was a wonderful life partner for my Mom. Don was interested in so many things including square dancing, live theater, travel and trivial pursuit. He had amazing memory for historical facts and was always quick with a smile and a joke. Don was a fantastic gentleman and had a great sense of humor. We never heard a critical comment from him. He had a heart-felt appreciation for people and would contribute a caring perspective to every situation. For a guy of nearly age-85 he was right with the times! A people person, indeed!!
Grandpa Scott, was the kind of Grandpa that kids wish for. He inspired people to be the best versions of themselves, no matter the limitations, and reminded us all the power of a good joke.
Mr. Scott! You will always be Mr. Scott to me. I guess that’s just a carry over from my southern roots. You were the first friendly face I met on that cold snowy day in January, 1974. You will be missed. Condolences to the Scott family.

Don was a wonderful man and a good friend. He had a great sense of humor. I worked with Don at Dakota Bank for several years. We tipped a few at Jupes.
I’m sorry to hear of Dons passing. Just a really warm and personal friend. I loved to be with him playing Bridge, playing a round of golf, or visiting about a variety of topics. A good friend to myself and to anybody he got involved with. A wonderful role model that I looked up to. A really neat guy! He was easy to love and will be deeply missed.
I worked with Don at Dakota Bank & Trust Co. for about 10 yrs in 1980’s. I remember his smile that lit up his face and his big laugh. It was a privilege to have worked with Don and to have known him. My sympathies and prayers are with family at your time of loss.
