The funeral of Donald W. Smith, Fargo, will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Fargo. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday in Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo. Donald died Tuesday, February 24, 2004. Mr. Smith was born in Mitchell, SD, on October 20, 1917, and lived with his parents, Eleanora and Frank Smith in Lane, SD. At an early age, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he attended public school and graduated from Nettleton Business College. Prior to World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force and was stationed in Langley Field, VA. During the war, he was stationed in Puerto Rico. He was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1945, and returned to Sioux Falls, SD, with his wife, Marie S. Smith. Mr. Smith was employed in wholesale distributor sales, and later with a finance company in Fargo. In 1965, he started Cabinets, Inc., a home remodeling business in Fargo. In 1970, he was awarded accreditation as a ?Certified Kitchen Designer,? a degree developed by the University of Illinois for the American Institute of Kitchen Dealers. Cabinets, Inc. Was discontinued in 1982 when Mr. Smith retired. He was later employed as Customer Service Manager at the Scheels south side store. Mr. Smith attended North Dakota State University, and was active as a master gardener. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Hawley Golf & Country Club. He was an active member of Holy Spirit Church where he sang in the choir for more than 20 years. Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, Donald (Jackie), Horace, ND, and John, Apple Valley, MN.
