Donald Thomas McKinnon, “Tom,” 77, formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in his home surrounded by family. Tom was born on May 23, 1942 in Wadena, MN to Donald F. and Violette O. McKinnon. He married Shirley Eggl on June 2, 1962. Together, they had seven children and lived a happy life until her passing in 1984. Tom was united in marriage to Sherry Farbo on December 23, 1987. He was an entrepreneur throughout his life, yet the most important thing and greatest accomplishment was his family. He loved spending time at the lake, hunting and making everyone laugh at the many family gatherings. He was also a lifelong dog lover. Tom is survived by his wife Sherry McKinnon; his 7 children Debra (Jim) Heisler, Michelle Gangl, Tom (Marcy) McKinnon, Stephanie (Barry) Dresser, Monica (Howard) Schriber, Colleen (Jon) Steinhauer and Donald (Kathy Mercado) McKinnon; step-children DaRinda (Rick) Trudel, Radd (Kristine) Farbo, Nita (Lou) Piccioni and Trina (Jason) Whitehead; 17 grandchildren Amanda (Jon Shilling) McKinnon, Sarah (Kevin) O’Connell, Robert and Daniel Heisler, Kayla, Brooke and Ethan Gangl, Mathew (Brittani) McKinnon, Michael (Sami) McKinnon, Jaxon Dresser, Tyler (Dariah Roberts), Nicholas and Ashley Schriber, Brandon and Lauren Steinhaur, Cole and Ryan McKinnon; 8 great-grandchildren, Aiden Gangl, Grady, Brooks and Sloane O’Connell, Evelyn Shilling, Mason, Marley and Maddox McKinnon; 8 step grandchildren, Alex, Calvin and McKenzie Trudel, Cole, Berkley and Sierra Farbo, Nico and Marissa Piccioni, brother-in-law Gordy King and his beloved dog Mia. He was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley, his parents Donald and Violette, his sister Kay Cartwright and son-in-law John Gangl. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
