Dorothy passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of Red River Valley. Dorothy Marie Thompson was born on November 6, 1922 in Crary, ND, the daughter of Harry and Nettie (Christianson) Thompson. She grew up in this area and graduated from Devils Lake High School. During her high school years is when she met her future husband, Olai. Dorothy was united to marriage to Olai Estenson in July of 1942. They made their home first in Crary where he worked in construction. The later lived in Windsor, ND where he worked at the Elevator, and later setting in Walcott, ND and Frazee, MN. For the past few years, Dorothy had made her home at the Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth. Throughout her 94 years Dorothy worked very hard. She provided a loving home for her children that they will remember as filled with joy and laughter. Her greatest love in life was her family. Dorothy is survived by her children – Donald (Jan) Estenson of Moorhead, MN; Marilyn (Wayne) Farsdale of Walcott, ND; Gary (Janet) Estenson of Frazee, MN; Gorden (Rikka) Estenson of Rockford, MN; Duane (Marian) Estenson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Kevin (Terry) Estenson of Fargo, ND; and Mike (Pat) Estenson of Moorhead, MN: 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great- grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Marvin Thompson of White Bear Lake, MN; her sisters-in-law - Delores Stenseth and Arlowene Halldorson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olai; her sisters – Irene Walker-Tade and Evelyn Walker; and her brothers – Larry Thompson and Earl Thompson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Serenity Living in Dilworth. The loving care, the genuine kindness and compassion, and the beautiful home they provided for Dorothy over the past few years has been a blessing to her and all of her family. The family was privileged to have the support of Hospice of the Red River Valley during Dorothy’s final days. They made the transition from this life to the next with peaceful grace. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 AM Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Fargo GATHERING: one hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday BURIAL: Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, MN
