Dorothy J. Janz, 81, Fargo, ND passed away at Bethany on 42nd surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
Dorothy Jean Redmond was born in Moore Township on March 3, 1933, and was raised in Enderlin, ND. She was the daughter of Jesse Lee and Lucille (Henderson) Redmond.
Dorothy spent her early years living on the family farm and moved to Enderlin in the fifth grade. She attended Moore Consolidated School and Enderlin High School and was involved in choir. She was awarded the American Legion School Award, selected in 1950 for Flickertail Girl’s State, and graduated in 1951.
Dorothy worked for Citizens State Bank in Enderlin from 1951-1961, and for All American Freight Systems in Fargo from 1976-1980.
Dorothy married Allen R. (Johnny) Janz on June 1, 1952, and they raised two children in Enderlin. She was an avid fan of the Enderlin Independent baseball team that her dad coached and Johnny played on, and she supported her children through all of their school activities. They spent many memorable years camping at Lake Ida with friends and relatives. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Cormorant Lutheran Church, and was a Life Member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In 1981, Dorothy and Johnny moved to Fargo/Moorhead and Lake Ida, near Cormorant, MN. They spent their time from spring through fall in Minnesota and eventually Fargo, enjoying their winter months at Green Bay South near LaFeria, TX, until 2008. Dorothy enjoyed her walking and coffee group of lake friends, and her Green Bay South community of friends in Texas enjoying clubhouse activities, golfing, trips to Mexico, and especially making teddy bears for law enforcement personnel to carry in their vehicles to comfort children at accident scenes. In 2007, Dorothy and Johnny traveled on the second “Honor Flight” to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Dorothy is remembered for her warm smile, love of playing cards, cooking and canning, making salsa, crocheting and embroidery, and her ability to make the lake and all of her homes welcoming and fun to all, and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Johnny, and their two children: Steven (Kari) Janz, Moose Lake, MN, and Joni (Jeff) Peterson, Fargo, ND; brothers, Donald (Janice) Redmond, Lloyd, (Donna) Redmond; sister, Carol Ann Pudwill. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Brittani Janz, Natalie (Jon) Beckstrand, Jordan (Alyssa) Sauvageau, Zachary Janz, Savanna Sauvageau (fiancé Q. Dillon), and six great grandchildren Emma, Carlos, Julian, Daymian, Nicolas, and Quincey. Her grandchildren and their spouses will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Darrell Redmond.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Cormorant Lutheran Church, Enderlin Veterans Memorial Fund, Enderlin Baseball Association, or the Enderlin Historical Society and Museum.
