Dorothy Linn

dorothy linn
Dorothy Elvina Haakenson was born to Knute and Synneva Haakenson on August 1, 1926, in Parshall, North Dakota.  She passed away on January 28, 2017 at the age of 90 while residing at Bethany on University, assisted by Hospice.  When she was young, her family moved from Parshall to Galesburg to Page and finally to Fargo.  She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1944.  Her work life entailed secretarial work at various businesses as well as work in government. Dorothy married Roger Stanley Linn on May 16, 1953.  They made their home in Fargo.  They adopted two children, Deborah Ruth and Stephen Theodore.  When referencing adoption, she frequently said, “Some parents are stuck with the kids they have, but you were chosen.”  Roger started a successful real estate company (First Realty, later Coldwell Bankers) while Dorothy supported him and the family as a traditional housewife.  She was a wonderful host and had many get-togethers and pool parties at their home. They were active members of Olivet Lutheran Church.  They enjoyed many family vacations and spending spring breaks in Scottsdale, AZ.  They were long-time members of the Fargo Country Club and enjoyed golf.  Dorothy did much volunteer work for different organizations. After her children were grown she expanded her interest in antiques and opened “Grandma’s Antiques and Collectibles,” in Fargo.  She also loved traveling to regional antique shows and flea markets. Because of her faith in God and Jesus Christ, we know she is out of pain and has been welcomed in heaven by those who have passed before her, including her parents, her brothers (Herman, Selmer, Marvin and Vernon) and her sisters (Cecilia and Iona). Dorothy is survived by her children Debbie Emerson and Steve (Tammy) Linn both of Fargo.  She has five grandchildren, Christopher Wagner, Sarah Wagner, Alex Linn, Austin Linn, and Andrew Linn, all of Fargo.  She is also survived by her sisters Glenda Meister of Fergus Falls, Clarice Ziner of Washington State and many nieces and nephews. There will be a funeral service at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. The family requests that any memorials be made to Christian Family Life Services.
