Douglas Raab

douglas raab

Douglas Allen Raab was born April 21, 1952 to Andrew Verne and Delores (Plunkett) Raab in Elgin, ND. He left this life on January 2, 2015 in Fargo, with most of his living siblings at his side.

Doug was part of the class of 1970 of Mott High School. Starting as a teenager, he held various jobs at different companies, including the Mott Baker, Mott Ready Mix and as a farm laborer. Doug was in the Army from 1972 to 1976, spending most of his tour of duty in Germany. After the Army, he furthered his education by taking courses in autobody and welding and worked for different companies using these skills. He worked in many states, including North Dakota, Michigan, Wyoming, Florida and California, including doing autobody work for Alien Implement in Mott and welding for such places as maintenance in an orange grove in Florida, Concorde Manufacturing and Case-IH Company in Fargo, and worked with the Gem Card company of Fargo, working at their California office. In his later years he was a taxi driver in Fargo, which really fit his gift of gab and he always had stories to tell. For the last several years, Doug has been retired for health reasons.

In his spare time, Doug enjoyed fishing and spending time with his buddies at Speck’s Bar in Fargo, and lately, working at times with his brother, Terry. He also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and, at the time of his death, was working on a puzzle picturing the Declaration of Independence.

Doug loved his family and will be missed by his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends. His gruff voice was very memorable and his laugh, infectious.

Doug is survived by his siblings – Dennis (Mary) Raab, Carson, ND; Sharon (Ray) Taylor, Miles City, MT; Calvin Raab (Julie Turbiville), Elgin, ND; Cindy (Cliff) Schatz, New Leipzig, ND; Tim Raab, Dickinson, ND; Wanda Norton (Shawn McFarland), Mott, ND; Norman Raab, Mott, ND; and Terry Raab, Argusville, ND, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Roberta and Tom Tilson, sister Glenda Masulis, and sister-in-law, Madonna Raab.
