Obituary

Eileen Y. Laney, 77, Fargo was welcomed peacefully into Jesus’ open and loving arms on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Eileen was born on September 29, 1939 in Horace, ND to Olivia and Lucinda (Sauvageau) Rheault. She was raised on a family farm south of Horace alongside her siblings where French was the spoken language. Because of this, Eileen did not learn to speak fluent English until the second grade. Eileen was always very proud of her French heritage and she shared this with her children later in her life. She attended St. Joseph’s high school in Wild Rice, ND in 1958 and continued on soon after to earn a degree in business from Interstate Business College where she graduated the same year.

Soon after college, Eileen began her career in the Plumbing and Heating business with a job at Shirley-Onstad Wholesale in 1959. After 11 years of employment at Shirley Onstad, she decided to go into business with her then husband, Chester Laney, as well as her father-in-law, Chester Laney Senior, until 1983. She continued her career in the Plumbing and Heating business until 1998 when she retired as the owner of Metro Plumbing & Heating.

Eileen’s children and grand children were the absolute joy of her life. She was always excited whenever she could get her family together for holidays and visits.  Eileen loved to play cards and board games with her family and those who visited her. She was a strong-willed woman who overcame the gender stereotypes through her work and everyday life, which has left an everlasting impact on her family.

Eileen is survived by her son, Paul (Patty) Laney, her daughters, Julie (Charles) Breid and Tonya (Mike) Cornell. Her grandchildren, Danielle and Katie Laney; Josh, Meghan, Kaylie, and Nathan Breid; Jordan (Casey) Laney, Allie, and Cody Sprecher.  Her sisters, Hazel Cossette, Leone Richard, Ella Richard, Pam Blotsky, and brother, Fluorent Rheault. Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Cleo, Andrew, and Roger Rheault; sister, Theresa Thorsen and grandson, Brandon Laney.

Eileen was truly an inspiration – Laney’s Plumbing and Heating was a very reliable sub-contractor with Eileen in the office – then as the years passed I had the opportunity to visit Eileen at Sheyenne Crossings. Eileen was always very up-beat regardless of her personal set backs. Eileen made everybody a better person – God Bless!

My mother, Donna Larson, and your mother Eileen enjoyed many games of Rumicube while they both
lived at Royal Court apartments. My mother was quite fond of her and always looked forward to their
evenings they shared playing. I am not sure but I think it was Tuesdays.
