Elda Beatrice Foster, 85, of Fargo, passed away surrounded by family on July 30th , 2014 at Bethany on University.

Elda was born on August 19th , 1928  in Durbin, ND to Paul and Erna Buchholz.  She grew up there and graduated from Casselton High School in the class of 1946.  After high school she attended Valley City State Teacher’s College earning her teachers certificate.  She then taught for a short time in a one room country schoolhouse near Amenia, ND.  She often shared memories of her teaching days with family and friends. She met her future husband Blake during this time, the school being across the road from his family’s farm.  On September 1st , 1948 she married Blake Foster at the Canaan Moravian Church in Davenport, ND. Together, they had 2 daughters, Linda and Jane. They lived on the Foster farm until 1964 when they moved Fargo, ND.

Elda spent many years as a caretaker and housekeeper for several families in the Fargo area.  She especially enjoyed taking care of her granddaughters, Sarah and Karen, and also attending their activities.  She never missed a band concert or piano recital. She was very proud of her daughters and granddaughters.  With her free time Elda enjoyed crocheting, baking, canning, sewing, and gardening.  She had an eye for detail and often helped others paint or wallpaper.  In her retirement Elda spent time fishing with Blake and listening to the Minnesota Twins.  Elda and her husband Blake were proud members of the First United Methodist Church of Fargo.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Bethany on University and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care in this time of need.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Dean) Kochmann, Fargo, ND and Jane Trana,  Amery, WI; two granddaughters,  Sarah (Kyle) Volk, West Fargo, ND and Karen (Josh) Ackerman, Fargo, ND; one great granddaughter, Coraline Volk, sisters Margarete Foster, Arthur, ND; and Paulette (Jim) Frasier, Boise, ID; brothers, Leslie Buchholz, Casselton, ND; and Art (Beth) Buchholz, Erie, ND.

  1. Bakersfield CAI talked with my dad today (Jim Iwen) and he mentioned your mothers passing. Such wonderful memories I have of visiting when both our families lived at Amenia and later when we moved to Arthur. I remember how our parents were such good friends back in the days of visiting back and forth, sharing meals together and us kids playing all kinds of stuff. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your families ….may you be comforted by your many wonderful memories !
