Elder Braaten

Elder I. Braaten, age 79, formerly of Kindred, ND died at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN on October 8, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer?s disease. Elder was born on May 6, 1928 in Section 8 of Normanna Township, in rural Kindred, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at Kindred Lutheran Church where he was a member until his death. In 1946 Elder graduated from Kindred High School. He married Eleanor Odegaard at Gol-Aal Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere, ND on July 12, 1953. Elder and Eleanor made their home on the Braaten homestead where farming was his livelihood as well as his passion. In 1978 Elder and Eleanor welcomed a crown princess who later became Queen Sonja of Norway to tour their farm. Elder served for many years on the Normanna Township Board, as treasurer for the Kindred Lutheran Church, and director of the Kindred Cemetery. Elder is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; five children: LaVonne Nokleberg, Janet (Jeff) Kub, Rodney Braaten, David (Teresa) Braaten, all of Kindred, ND, Vickie (Jerry) Kub, Davenport, ND; eleven grandchildren: Katie Nokleberg (fianc? Troy Rickord), St. Louis Park, MN, Lance Nokleberg, Fargo, ND, Shanna (Adam) Brech, Pierre, SD, Angie Kub, Davenport, ND, Brandon Kub (fianc? Erin Toppen), Brady Kub, Jason Kub, Riley Braaten, Alec Braaten, Tori Braaten, Gunnar Braaten, all of Kindred, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, Astrid and Richard Braaten.
