Eline Knudson

eline knudson

Eline passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN at the age of 66. Eline suffered a massive aneurism during Bible Study in Valley City just as the group finished their prayer requests.  Eline's head collapsed in her Bible which was open to the Gospel of John, chapter 16.  Her unexpected death has devastated her family and friends, but we take great comfort in knowing she was able to give the gift of life through organ donation.

Eline Grosfield was born in Billings, MT, on August 11, 1946, the daughter of Louis and Evelyn (Finsvik) Grosfield. She spent her childhood years living on a ranch near Big Timber, MT, and in a home in Santa Barbara, CA where she completed her schooling. Eline graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She was united in marriage to Rev. Don Knudson on May 18, 1968. They made their home in several communities throughout North Dakota and Minnesota where he served various congregations and they raised their daughters.  Don and Eline divorced in 1993.  Most recently Eline had made her home in Valley City. Throughout her life, Eline was very active in many churches in the communities where she lived. Her faith was strong, and she lived her life accordingly. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was known as "Grammy" to many more who adopted her as their own honorary grandma. Eline was in the process of moving to Moorhead, MN, to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.  She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her generous spirit and her great love of the Lord.

Eline is survived by her daughters, Karla (Jeff) Wiegrefe of Fargo, ND; and Kristin (Adrian) Gaytan of Glyndon, MN; her 19 grandchildren – Nathanial, Matthew, Stefan, Azariah, Elizabeth, Adriana, Marcelina, Isaiah, Isabel, Maria, Louis, Josiah, Lorents, Abraham, Sebastian, Zebadiah, Gabriela, Liliana, and Naomi. Also surviving are her three siblings – Lorents Grosfield, Ivanie Finsvik, and Allison Grosfield; her three nephews – Arik, Nik, and Zak, and their families; along with many other very dear relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents.

  4. Topeka KSDearest Karla, Kristen and families,

My prayers are with you all.

When I lived in Minot I saw your mom 1-2 days a week. She attended our home Bible study. We worked together at and she was always a wealth of information. She was so creative on the computer as well.
We would go the bagel shop weekly and she always was very proud to talk about her grandchildren’s accomplishments.
She would always find time for a cup of tea most anytime and just visit too.
I will never forget your mom’s gentle spirit & her love for the Lord. I will greatly miss her, and I know this is a great void and loss in all of your lives. Your mom’s greatest blessing would be knowing her children, grandchildren and all other family members are all living for the Lord and doing His work.
I pray for you all during this most difficult time.
    Love,
    Karen Ferris

  5. Valley City ND
Darryl and I got to know and love Eline for the last several months as she attended All Saints Church in Valley City. Her passing is such a shock. She was so concerned about Kristin and her grandchildren, a truly kind person and close to God. We were delighted to meet Isabel, Jesus and Luis at church recently, and pray for them, for Kristin, for Eline and all her family.

  7. Firestone COKristin and Karla and family,
I knew your mom when your dad was the pastor at Christ Lutheran. As a matter of fact, your dad married me and my first husband. Your mom was always such a beautiful positive spirit to have around. The Lord has gained an exquisit angel on his side to look over your families.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
    God Bless!

Dear Karla, Kristen and your families,
My sympathy and prayers go out to you with the loss of your mother.

The shock of her sudden death must be devastating. I pray you are finding comfort in knowing she is wrapped in God’s warm, loving arms and the knowledge you will see her again. The scripture that talks about us not having to grieve as those who have no hope has always been a comfort to me. What a kind woman your mother was to donate h organs to those in need.

I pray for you daughters, your families and your Dad, God’s tender mercies and radiant love as you go though this journey of grief.
May you be able to remember through all this that “God is…..”

    Blessings on all of you.

I was shocked to learn that Eline had passed away so suddenly as we were out of town for the weekend. She was a dear friend of mine at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City. We had many conversations where we shared of our faith and family. She was such a prayer warrior, and she loved her family. The last time I saw her was when she had her grandchildren at the Memorial Day parade in Valley City. My heartfelt sympathies go out to her family members. I will miss her so much.

Please accept our condolences Kristin and Karla. Your mom was an angel. Every encounter I’ve had with your mom was warm and inviting and not forgetting her cheerful smile that seemed permanent.
Little story: I had taken the kids to Valley last year and we decided to stop in and visit with mom – didn’t even call ahead. When we knocked on the door she was happy to see us and invited us in. She was eager to get tea started and took out the teapot and matching cups and saucers as well and we all sat down to cookies and tea. Your mom had a kind, warm heart. I won’t forget it. I am also thankful that I got to spend some time with her during a retreat some months ago. May God look kindly and mercifully on her and bring her to eternal life. May God’s peace be with you both.

  20. MontanaTreasured cousins,

I long to be with you next month. It is hard being overseas in this time, and I miss my aunt a lot. She is with her Lord and Savior. You and she have blessed me – and all of our family – so much over the years. Let us continue our phone conversations. Much love, and many prayers. God bless!
