Elizabeth Virginia (DeSchane) Brost, 96, Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, April 26 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, surrounded by the many prayers and the support of her family and friends.
She was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 5, 1918 to Edson E. DeSchane and Jane Barbara (Vaughan) DeSchane. She attended Minneapolis Public Schools. Following her schooling, she worked as a seamstress at Kickernick, and later as an employee at a bullet factory during World War II. She met her husband, Alvin Oliver Brost, at her aunt’s boarding house, where she worked in Minneapolis. They married three months later at Hennepin Methodist Church. Following their wedding, they moved to Ellendale, ND where Alvin owned and operated an appliance store. After a short time in Aberdeen, SD and Bismarck, ND, they raised their children in Devils Lake, ND and Moorhead, MN. After the death of her husband in 1979, Elizabeth worked as an aide to children with special needs in the Moorhead Public Schools. In 1986, she moved to Illinois in order to be close to family. While there, she cared for her grandchildren and other children in her community, became active in her church First United Methodist of Crystal Lake, and her PEO sisterhood. In 2006, Elizabeth returned to North Dakota, became a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, and resided at Riverview Place until her death.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Margaret (Carl) Moon of Crystal Lake, IL, Mark (Betty) Brost of North Oaks, MN, and Barbara (Jeff) Hanson of Fargo, ND. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Adrienne (Bryan) Swanson, Lauren (Tom) Vedder, David Brost, Lisa (Derek) Johnson, Cassandra Brost, and Rachel (Andy) Wolf. Elizabeth was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Cohen, Caroline, and Kiera Swanson, Jack Vedder, and Annika and Siri Johnson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Hildegard Brost, Crookston, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Marilyn, parents, two sisters and four brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to Riverview Place.
