Ellen Sathre, age 88, Fargo, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005, in Elim Care Center, Fargo.
Ellen Malmkar was born December 22, 1916, in Papillion, NE, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Axelsen) Malmkar. She grew up in Grant, NE, and graduated from Perkins County High School. She later graduated from Chadron State College in Chadron, NE. She taught in a country school near Brandon, NE for six years and then moved to Colorado Springs, CO. She worked at Fort Carson as a secretary for the U.S. Army during World War II. She later transferred out to Vancouver, WA, where she continued to work as a secretary in the Kaiser Shipyards. It was there that she met her future husband, Oscar Sathre. Ellen and Oscar were united in marriage on June 16, 1946, in Brandon, NE. The couple moved to Tuttle, ND, where they made their living farming and ranching. They moved to Fargo in 1995. Ellen entered Elim Care Center in December 2004.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar of Fargo; one daughter, Brenda (Ed) Kaeding of Forest Lake, MN; one son, Kenneth of Fargo; two grandsons, Michael and Lucas; and one sister, Marie (Dick) Rosenquist of Geneva, NE.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer, Harold, Chris, Victor, and Kenneth.
There will be visitation on Sunday from 4-5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., in the Pioneer House Chapel at Elim Care Center, Fargo. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of the Nazarene in Tuttle, ND. Visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Tuttle Cemetery.
