Elmer graduated from Sheldon High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard in Camp Rucker, AL, serving from 1951 to 1953. Elmer married Grace Jacobs, August 26, 1951, and they farmed in rural Enderlin. He worked the night shift on the “Ice Gang” for the Soo Line Railroad for a number of years. Elmer was one of the first farmers in the region to raise sunflowers. When Elmer retired at age 54, Elmer and Grace spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Elmer continued to be involved in farming by helping Wayne Fleischfresser with his farming operation. Grace died in 1998, and Elmer married Gladys Wittmayer, December 8, 2000. Elmer loved to go dancing and play cards. He taught family and friends how to work hard and how to play hard! Elmer is survived by his wife, Gladys; son, David (Laurie) Geyer of Enderlin, ND; daughters, Meri (Marvin) Weiler, Enderlin, Doris (Gary) Fritz, Fargo and Cathy (Cal) Singleton, Moorhead, MN; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 3 stepsons, Harry (Cora) Wittmayer, Kevin (Diane) Wittmayer, and Tim (Debbie) Wittmayer; 2 brothers, Jim (Sharon) Geyer, Fargo, and John (Jean) Geyer, Walnut Creek, CA; and special friend, Wayne (Joanne) Fleischfresser, Enderlin. Elmer was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace; granddaughter, Katie Weiler; and six siblings. A Prayer Service will be held at Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, in Kindred, ND at 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2009. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Chapel. The Funeral will be at Leonard Lutheran Church, Leonard, ND at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 3, 2009. Burial will be at Enderlin Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND.
