Ernest A. Gronbeck, 87, formerly of Leonard, ND, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at Elim Care and Rehab Center, Fargo.

Ernest was born April 11, 1925 in Leonard, North Dakota to Arnie and Josephine (Vangsness) Gronbeck. Ernest attended Leonard High School. He married Ella Fjelstad at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Kindred on December 18, 1949. The couple farmed south of Leonard.

Ernie was a great husband, father and grandfather who generously shared his unconditional love. He enjoyed hunting, going to auctions and collecting and restoring antiques. He took pride in raising pigs and cattle and he always had a joke or a story to share.

Ernie is survived by his daughters; Cathryn (Robert) Jostad, Kindred, Sheila (Larry) Goughnour, Fargo, grand-daughters; Lisa Jostad, Kindred, Laura (Larry) Schwab, Fargo, Shari (Lee) Zimbelman, West Fargo, Jackie (Darin) Milbrath, West Fargo, Sally (Marlin) Hildebrand, Winkler, MB Canada, great-grandchildren; Garrett Hildebrand, Zac and Brooke Schwab and Avery Milbrath, siblings; Gladys Walaker, Fargo, Arnold (Darlene) Gronbeck, Moorhead, and Doris Gronbeck, West Fargo, in-laws; Olive Andvik, Moorhead, Alletta (Harlan) Smeby, Kindred, Carl (Zita) Fjelstad, Mesa, and Wallace (Eileen) Fjelstad, Mesa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ella, and siblings, Frank, Arnfred, Eunice and Lucille.

The Gronbeck family would like to give thanks to all the caring individuals at Elim Care and Rehab Center.

    Ernie was a very good man. I cherish the many years of hunting with he and Arnfred. Now they are together again and am sure a couple hunting stories are again being shared. God bless.

    So very sad to hear about Ernie. So sad, we thought Ernie and Dad were so close to seeing each other again. Want you to know you are all in our prayers. I feel so bad that we won’t be able to be there for the services. We just got to Arizona Saturday night. Sending our love and prayers this sad day.
