Ernestine Ostapowicz

Ernestine passed away on February 10, 2017 at St. Francis Home in Breckenridge, MN at the age of 89.
Ernestine Hall was born on July 16, 1927 in Calais, Maine, the daughter of Roscoe and Beatrice (Barnes) Hall. The family lived in Milltown, New Brunswick, Canada and also in Quebec, Canada. At age 18 she traveled by train to Buffalo, New York where she received her nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital. Ernestine was united in marriage to John J. Ostapowicz on March 4, 1950 in Olean, New York. Together they made their home in New York and raised their family.
Ernestine is survived by her children – Stephen Andrew, Christal Ann, Edith Mary and Joan Bernice. Also surviving are her grandchildren – Justine (Kitty) Chanel Ostapowicz, Joshua Hulbert, Jamie Hulbert, Steven Fichtel, Drew Fichtel, Eric Hutchison, Luke Hutchison, Jake Hutchison, and Gabe Hutchison; her great grandchildren – Ivy Hulbert, Oliver Hulbert, Calamity Jane Winchester, Phoebe Ann Winchester, and Jackson Alexander Hutchison; and her sister, Marion Crossfield.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, John Michael; and her sister, Shirley Stevens.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all today. We have wonderful memories of good times shared with you all when we were children. I remember a particular time when we visited you in Buffalo, and we were playing hide and seek all over the house – in the closets, and wherever we found a spot. my Mom was very worried about us making a mess- but Aunt Tina said no, let them have fun – that’s what its all about ! I will always remember these good times shared.

I am very saddened by the passing of Aunt Tina, my namesake. I always felt that we had a special connection, and even more so with my cousins as I got to know them all. We had great fun in our youthful days in the big house in Buffalo, when our family traveled there from QC. I will always remember Aunt Tina for her beautiful smile, her bright outlook, she was always looking for the positive things during unsettling times. She was loved very much by my mother, her sister Marian, and when I saw Aunt Tina the last time, in NB, she was so true in her heart to when I had first met her when I was a child. I wish many things: that we could have lived closer, that I could have traveled more to meet up with everyone, and that I could have been there today. I will try to come to Buffalo in the summer for the service there. Be well everyone, have courage, and know that there is peace in celebrating her life, a life well-lived.
I remember well visits from my Aunt Tina, and Uncle John. Their kindness and always being interested in what us kids were doing at different stages stages in our lives. Aunt Tina’s last visit to New Brunswick to see mom (Marian) was very special. I remember driving them around from place to place, both in the backseat, giggling like only sisters can. I would have to say that I greatly admired her positivity and young at heart energy. My deepest sympathies to all who grieve.
