Esther Bernardy

esther bernardy
Esther Carlson Bernardy, 101, died Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo where she received the best care she could have possibly had. Esther was born on a farm in Osgood, ND to Sten and Hulda (Sandin) Carlson on July 7, 1917. She was one of eight children. She loved living on the farm and said it was fun to feed the small chicks with her mother and herd cows. After school, she worked for Oscar Furnberg for a while, and then moved to Fargo and worked at Knerrs Ice Cream Store. There she met her husband Otto (Budd) Bernardy. They raised five children and later lived on Pelican Lake, MN in the summers. She loved growing flowers and vegetables, and mostly chives for her baked potatoes. Esther was a homemaker, and the Bernardy house was kind of a hub for all the neighborhood kids. Everyone sort of hung out there, maybe because after school she always had chocolate chip cookies waiting for them. She is survived by her daughters, Renee (Harold Krueger) Buckman, Moorhead, MN; and Rita (John) Kamp, Mount Dora, FL; sisters, Eva Snuff, Merced, CA; Evelyn Smith, Sheffield Lake, OH; Ellen Simon, Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law, Margo Bernardy; grandchildren, Traci (Shane) Kroshus, Tara (Erick) Handegard, Justin (Mandy) Bernardy, Jennifer (Andy) Syverson, Kate (Ray) Kamp, Jared Bernardy, Kristin (Dan) Kamp; and step-granddaughter, Melissa (Chris) Johnsen; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto (Budd); her sons, Rodger, Ric, and Randy; son-in-law, Dennis Buckman; her parents; brothers, Alvin, Art and Helmer Carlson; and sister, Edith Olson. There will be a memorial service at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior.
