Eugene  " Eli" Whitney, 68, died May 9, 2011 at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND

Eugene was born December 21, 1942 in Jamestown, ND to George and Annamae Whitney.  He attended Jamestown High School and graduated in 1960. He then went to Wahpeton State School of Science majoring in linotype printing, and graduated in 1960. He began his printing career in Jamestown.  Eugene married Doreene Engstrom in Carrington, in June 1965 and lived in Jamestown and numerous cities and states throughout their marriage. He served in the North Dakota National Guard for 6 years. Eugene worked in the printing business for 12 years and also as a sales representative in the automobile industry for 30 years.

In 1993, they moved to Fargo and in 2007 he retired from the automotive business.

Eugene enjoyed hunting fishing, casinos, building new homes, bowling, traveling,  and walking.

Eugene is survived by his wife Doreene, children Kevin (Deanne) Whitney, Ayr, ND, Kerri (Nick) Lonetti, St. Paul, MN and grandchildren Chase, Brady and Rylie, siblings Tracy (Karen) Whitney, Bismarck, ND, Deborah (Merle) Kunz, Washington,  Barbara Norton, California, and special brothers and sisters in law Jim (Paula) Laush, Jamestown, ND, Larry  ( Dianne) Engstrom, Dalton, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
