Eunice (Mick) Hams, 79 of Hillsboro, ND passed away on December 31st 2017 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Mick was born to Melvin and Tillie (Olson) Mickelson on December 18th, 1938 in Halstad, MN.  She graduated from Halstad High School after which she attended Moorhead State University for one year studying music.  She met Leslie “Les” Hams while working in Halstad. They were married in Shelly Minnesota on June 23rd, 1957.  She worked as a cashier and butcher at Art and Dee’s Fairway before opening Hams Market grocery store in Hillsboro.  In the mid 1970’s she started work at American Crystal Sugar Company working various jobs including Control Room Operator until her retirement in 2001 after more than 20 years. Maybe she should have been a preacher because we were told that as a child she would get up on her soapbox to lecture and sing her heart out to whoever would listen.  Over the years she enjoyed reading many books, listening to music and singing in the choir where she was Choir Director at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.  She loved spending time in her yard and gardens.  She enjoyed spending time at the lakes with her dear friends. One of her fondest memories was celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary with family and very good friends. She enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada following her favorite singer, Anne Murray on tour. Mick is survived by her four children; Jody and Becky (Seil) Hams, Jay Hams, Jeff and Linda (Kimbrell) Hams, Jon Hams. Five Grandchildren; Michelle (Hams) and Vivek Singh, Elizabeth Hams, Christina (Hallwachs) and Adam Lewis, Sarah Hams, Jennifer Hams. Three Great Grandchildren; Arjun, Avery and Gavin.  One sister Phyllis Mickelson of Moorhead, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Les, her brother Gerald Mickelson, and one sister Ione Magnuson. Funeral Service: 11 AM Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro - with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church Burial will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Guestbook

  1. Mick was my neighbor! We had many backyard fun things we did! Mick and I would ride together to the plant once in a while! Had lots of fun together. She will be missed. Hams boys! U had a great mom and dad! Prayers for the family.

  2. I am so sorry to hear of Mick’s death. To all of you, I extend our sympathies. I know she loved her family very much. I loved her sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with her. Blessings as you heal which can take some time. Support from your faith, family and friends will help.

  3. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Mick was very special to both of us, interested in our lives and family, as we were in hers. We especially remember fondly singing with and for Mick in the church choir. Kathy & Stuart Larson

  4. Our deepest sympathies to the Hams family. We never met Eunice but if she was anything like her children, she must have been a great lady.
