Funeral services for Frank R. Brasel will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blanchard Lutheran Church, Blanchard, ND. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro, and in the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in Mayville City Cemetery. Frank passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004, at his home near Blanchard, at the age of 91. Frank R. Brasel was born near Perham, MN, on April 22, 1913, and was baptized, confirmed, and educated in that area. He entered the Army in June of 1942 and served in the Pacific theater until his discharge in January 1946. He married Merilla Hilstad on November 6, 1942, while home on leave. After the war they farmed in the Blanchard area until his retirement in 1975. Merilla died in 1983. On January 15, 1986, he married Marion Kvernen, continuing to live on the farm where he enjoyed the pleasures of her large and loving family. Frank was active in the local community and served for many years on the Blanchard Lutheran Church board, and was also active in the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. Frank is survived by his wife, Marion; one brother, Herbert (Swede) Brasel. He also leaves stepchildren Darrell (Marge) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Terry (Lynn) Strand of Moorhead, MN, Paul (Tamarie) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Dale (Kim) Kvernen of Portland, ND, Cheri (Dennis) Gregor of West Fargo, ND, and Jenell (Ron) Braseth of Mayville, ND; 15 step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, George Hilstad (Margaret) of Mayville, ND; nephews, Steve (Linda) Hilstad of Mayville and Paul (Becky) Hilstad of New York City, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews in the New York Mills area.
