Fred passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, due to complications from congestive heart failure, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Fred was born on September 10, 1927 in Fargo, the son of Fred and Jenny (Hanson) Sundblad. He grew up in Fargo and attended Fargo Central High School. He was united in marriage to Darline Czichotzki on September 4, 1949 at Christ Lutheran Church in Wolverton, MN. They made their home in Fargo, in the same house for 66 years, where they raised their family. Fred worked as a Bricklayer for many years and during retirement kept busy at Scheel’s Home and Hardware in Fargo. Fred will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. His favorite days were spent at the lake with all of his family, but especially his grandchildren. He was well known for the breakfasts he cooked at the lake, the fish he caught, and all of the time spent with his grandkids going on walks, sledding, picking raspberries and cattails. Fred enjoyed the solitude of working in his garage on many woodworking projects and sharing them with his family and neighbors. He was a talented man who could fix anything. He was an avid reader, loved playing cards, crossword puzzles, and enjoyed a Miller Lite with his friends. Fred is survived by his wife, Darline Sundblad of Fargo; his children - Sherry Fougner of Ely, MN; Randall (Graham Davidson) Sundblad of Gypsum, CO; and Kevin (Denise) Sundblad of Wendell, MN; his four grandchildren – Jamie Fougner, Krista Fougner, Lisa (Ryan) Babel and Marie (Grant) Moeckel; his two great-grandchildren – Corbin and Dorian Moeckel; his three step-granddaughters – Michelle Casias, Kimberly (Jacob) Hildebrant and Heather Everson; and his four step-great-grandchildren – George, Ernest, and Lucy Hildebrant, and Brianna Casias. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings – Helmer, Martha and Ruth. 1. I just want you all to know how sorry I am for your loss.
    Please accept my sincere condolences-
    In Love and Friendship,

  2. I had the honor to work with Fred about a year on a remodel, move to a new building for his brother in law Mark… We had a good time, and will not forget all he taught me. He was a 1 of a kind guy, and will be deeply missed.. His friend Todd Hively

  3. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sunblad and Czichotzki families. We have so many fond memories of Fred at the lakes and know how much he enjoyed spending time there.
Whenever we had a project going on next door, we knew it was just a matter of time before Fred would appear to make sure we had it handled. A great conversationalist and just a joy to be around. He will be missed!
