Frederick Hilsendager

Frederick Donald Hilsendager, 50, of Woodridge, IL, passed away suddenly on September 25, 2016. Fred was the beloved husband of Chona (Woodridge, Ill); the cherished son of Donald (Sarah) Hilsendager (West Fargo, formerly Philadelphia, Pa) and Ardella (Stan) Moeckel (Wishek, ND).  He was the caring brother of Theresa Strong (Fargo) and Colleen (Keith) Bengtson (Pelican Rapids, Minn).  Fred will be missed by his nieces Tracy Fercho Frank (Tristin) (Fargo) and Maureen Schauer Cochran (Kevin) (Fargo), and his nephew Steven (Gina) of Bismarck.  He had 2 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews. His treasured 16 year old daughter Olivia was the light of his life. A graduate of Wishek High School, Fred was respected for his basketball and track accomplishments; indeed, some of his records are unbeaten to this day. He was a proud graduate of Fox School of Business, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.  His interest in sports continued throughout his life. Fred’s dedication to the Minnesota Vikings was legendary, remaining loyal throughout both winning and losing seasons; his favorite attire was “anything Viking”.  Fred enjoyed landscape architecture and gardening, loved to ski in Vermont and Utah, and was working to improve his golf game. He had a witty and wry sense of humor and was a computer whiz.  Fred was blessed by many friendships throughout the country. He was an excellent host at any gathering and was an outstanding conversationalist, covering a wide range of topics; he loved the opportunity to engage in intellectual debate and friends and family learned from his insights. Fred was committed to clean energy and solar power, doing his part to encourage others to honor the land and its natural resources. Frederick Donald Hilsendager was a good man.  He is missed beyond measure. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 S La Salle Street Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604, or www.donatenow.heart.org. 5. On what would have been the 58th year of your life, your loving dad and I celebrate you and all the love you bestowed upon us throughout the years. We genuinely shared, learning and growing together, hosting your wedding in Vermont & that same wonderful ski week together with the family; being “in the room” when your beloved daughter Olivia was born; long evenings on our deck watching the stars and “solving the world’s problems” as only we could (!); traveling the country for ski adventures and O’s spring breaks; many of your-birthdays/Thanksgivings/ Christmases together in Philadelphia, Vermont & Chicago; trips to your “Uncle” Butch in Virginia; and so so so much more. You gifted us with friendship, authenticity, love AND like, honesty, reaching out so often to spend time together, entrusting Olivia to our care throughout the years of summer vacation times, and those almost-weekly phone conversations with your dad. We continue to feel the physical loss of your presence in our lives; we continue to celebrate the many years we shared, the life you lived and the ongoing blessing in our lives of your beloved Olivia. ‘Til we meet again … your Bonus Mom Sarah Hilsendager
