Gary A. Honek, age 57, Fargo, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in his Fargo home. Gary Anthony Honek was born July 3, 1947, in Fargo, ND, the son of Anton and Anna (Janousek) Honek. He grew up here and graduated from Shanley High School in 1965. He then attended North Dakota State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1969. Gary served as a Cadet in the ROTC program while at NDSU. Following his college graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He was stationed at Kesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, later at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL, and finally at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force as a Captain. It was while Gary was stationed in Montgomery, AL, that he met and later married his wife, Lou Ann Schumann, on October 2, 1971. Following his discharge from the military, the couple moved to Fargo in 1973. Gary began employment with LaBelle?s, later known as Best, first working in the camera department. He also served as a department manager and later as store manager. While he worked at LaBelle?s he earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from NDSU. He began work at Media Play in 1993, where he served as both operations manager and later store manager. When he left the retail industry in 2002, he began working for TSA as an airport screener. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann of Fargo; two children, Sarah (Cody) Cannon of Grand Forks, ND, and Jared of Fargo; his parents, Tony and Ann Honek of Fargo; and three sisters, Kathy (Rod) Stende of Menominee, MI, Mary (Bob) Rohla of Fargo, and Donna Honek of Fargo. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Steven. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul?s Newman Center, Fargo. A prayer service will be held Thursday in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, at 7 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home and Friday from 1-2 p.m. in St. Paul?s Newman Center.
