Gene Coon
February 26, 1938 ~ October 3, 2018
Gene R. Coon was born on February 26, 1938, the son of Gerald and Ruth Coon, in Des Moines, IA.
The family moved to Casper, Wyoming is 1954, and in 1955 they moved to Mandan, North Dakota, where Gene grew up. He worked briefly at a local radio station as a DJ.
Gene and JoAnn were married for 60 years. Gene worked at AAA for 35 years as a Senior Vice President in the travel department. This gave them the opportunity to travel all across Europe. For 14 years, Gene & JoAnn spent weekends on their Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; and family members – Carmen and daughter, Megan of Fargo; Kim Coon of Fonda, IA and son, Michael Coon and daughter, Skyler of Fargo; son Gene “Buddy” (Carla) Coon and their children, Hannah, Jesse, Jael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Tova all of Fonda, IA.

I Served in the ND Jaycees with Gene in the 1960’s and happened to see the death notice in the Thursday paper. It was a fun and growing time in Jaycees, I still keep up with several friends from those days.
My birth date happens to be 2-23-37.
