Gerald Pronovost, 90, passed away December 20, 2016, in Fargo. Born in Wild Rice, ND, on March 1, 1926, to Leo Pronovost and Rose (Brunette) Pronovost, Jerry grew up on a farm in Wild Rice for his first 8 years until his family moved to Fargo. He attended Sacred Heart High School in Fargo until he enlisted in the Navy in February 1944 and served until he was honorably discharged on May 4, 1946. A World War II veteran, Jerry served on a naval destroyer, the USS Farenholt, and was in the battle of Okinawa. On February 24, 1949, Jerry married Lois Cole in Fargo. They had 3 children and lived in the Moorhead/Fargo area. For a few years after they got married, Jerry worked for Dr. Pepper and Dakota Transfer while earning his high school diploma through correspondence school and then attending Interstate Business College. In 1952 Jerry started work for the city of Moorhead. Over the course of 35-plus years with the city, Jerry worked as an accountant, then as deputy city clerk and his last 18 years as office manager for the Public Service Dept. He enjoyed the people he worked with and was known for always wanting to do what's fair. Upon retiring he said, “You forget all the hassles, but you don't forget the people.” After retiring, Jerry and Lois enjoyed their winters in Texas and summers at their lake home with family. They kept active enjoying golf, gardening, and their horses. Being members of the F-M Posse Club, they attended and worked at many horse shows. Also, Jerry has proudly been a member of the American Legion Moorhead Post 21 for 55 years and enjoyed many activities there. Jerry took great pride in his family. He loved watching the growth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who in his eyes could do no wrong. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lois Pronovost; parents Rose and Leo Pronovost; and brothers, Virgil and Andrew Pronovost. Jerry is survived by his children: Rhonda (Richard) Mix, Nowthen, MN; Bruce Pronovost, Fargo; Karen (Karl) Palloch, Colfax, ND; grandchildren: Jenny (Scott) Unger, Noblesville, IN; Jerry (Sara) Mix, Elk River, MN; Cody Mix, Blaine, MN; Cole (Arika) Palloch, West Fargo; Katie Palloch, Abercrombie, ND; 6 great-grandchildren: Addison, Aidan, Micah, McKenna, Gavin and Quinn; and nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 26, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial at Holy Cross North Cemetery in Fargo. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo.
