On Saturday, December 15, 2018 Jerry (Gerald) Tufte, 75, ended his battle with cancer at Sandford in Hillsboro. Jerry was born to Clarence and Esther (Johnson) Tufte in Brocket, ND on July 7, 1943. Jerry graduated from Lakota High School in 1961 and soon went into the Army as a Radio Relay and Carrier. After serving in the Korean War Jerry returned to the Hillsboro area and remained there till his passing. After high school Jerry worked in the Furniture business in Grand Forks and Metzger’s in Fargo, worked with NDSU agricultural unit and hauled beets and other produce for farmers. Jerry also owned and operated Jerry’s I-29 Standard Gas Station for many years. Most recently, he retired from Goose River Golf Club as grounds keeper. Jerry married Dorothea Jackson June 17, 1972. For 46 years they enjoyed their many escapades. Jerry was known to help anyone who was in need. He was able to fix most things no matter the situation. The local Vets Club was a common place to find Jerry working to serve others. Whatever project was going on, Jerry was there. The Vets Club had a fund raiser this past fall to help the Tuftes with health costs for which they are eternally thankful. Jerry was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Esther and brothers, Curtis and Dennis. Survivors include wife, Dorothea, Hillsboro, Step-daughter, Elizabeth Bartel (Gary), Arizona, son, Walter Tufte, brothers, Doug (Judy) and Norris (Cathy), numerous nieces and nephews.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We remember Jerry’s humor and kindness fondly. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

  2. Our sympathies to you over your loss of Jerry. We have known both of them for many years. When Ray visited Jerry the day before he died, he came home and said he thought he didn’t have much time left. He died the next day. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Ray and Becky Foss

  3. So sad to hear of Jerry’s passing – I will always remember the great times we shared with Jerry & Dorothea – Lots of fun Jerry stories – One of my favorites is when he pulled the wires off the horn when the guy behind him kept honking – The judge was very understanding – also fun times playing cards and singing along with the guitar at the resort. – God bless – Jan

  4. I am so sorry to hear about Jerry passing. He was a wonderful classmate and loved by all of us. I know the Angels were waiting for him and please accept my sympathy.
    Sincerely,
    Jeanne Hulstrand-Laabs
