Gilma Swenson

Gilma Swenson, 92, Fargo, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo. Gilma Kirkeby was born to Lewis and Clara (Rue) Kirkeby on January 19, 1916 on a farm near Flom, MN. She grew up there, attended school in that area and graduated from Twin Valley High School. After graduation Gilma worked at the Red Apple Caf? in Mahnomen, MN for a time. Gilma Kirkeby and Charles Orin Swenson were married on October 12, 1940 in Flom, MN. They lived in Flom for two years before moving to Minneapolis where they lived for five years until coming to Fargo in 1947. Gilma lived in Fargo for a total of 61 years, working at Sears part time, retiring in 1976. Her husband passed away on October 24, 1966. She is survived by her Daughter Phyllis (Tom) Fuemmeler, Camdenton, MO Daughter Carol (Stan) Gerger, Rosemount, MN Son Roger (Deb) Swenson, Hot Springs, SD Brother Lloyd (Helen) Kirkeby, Amarillo, TX Brother Vernon (Gladys) Kirkeby, Moorhead, MN Brother Darrell (Sharon) Kirkeby, Bullhead City, AZ 6 Grandchildren 7 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Milton and Douglas The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Mavis Whiting Chapel at Bethany Homes. There will be a visitation in the chapel one hour before the funeral. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Flom, MN.
