Gordon “Gordie” Porter, 87, of Fargo passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND. Gordon was born on May 15, 1931 to Ernest and Gladys (Atchison) Porter in Sarles, ND. His birth mother passed away shortly after child birth, and Ernest married Elsie (McAdams) who raised Gordon and his sister Lois. After graduating from Hannah High School, Gordon worked on the family farm until serving in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, Gordon worked on the family farm then attended school at ND Agriculture College and began working in Fargo. Gordon married Irma Bordt on January 16, 1957 in Fargo, where they raised their children. He is a member of Faith United Methodist Church and worked 36 years for Butler Machinery until his retirement in 1997. Gordon was a wonderful father and husband and will always be remembered for his kind heart and generosity in helping neighbors and friends. Gordon is survived by his wife Irma, sons Steven (Harriett) Porter, Scott (Julie) Porter, and Stuart Porter; and daughter Gladys (Jim) Carlin. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Aaron, Sarah and Kathleen (Devyn) Carlin, David (Jordan) Porter, Reily Porter Altenburg, Jordan Novacek, and Christopher Porter; four great-grandchildren: Violet, Willow and Daunte Porter, and Ava Carlin; sister Lois (Bob) Axtman; and many loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents and stepmother Elsie. Gordon’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Maryhill Manor for the exceptional care given to Gordon. A memorial service will be held at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM.

    I am so very sorry for the loss of Gordy! He was a one of a kind man. Always had kind words with his yes ma’am, and the smile on his face lit up the room. He was a sweetheart and a pleasure to know. As well as you kids who came so often to see him. Meant so much to him. My deepest sympathy to you all.

    I will always cherish the time we got to spend with him, dad really enjoyed spending time with him. Gordie will be missed by so many here on earth but welcomed by so many in heaven and to finally get to meet his mom, what a special day!
