Grace Haisley, 87, of Hillsboro, ND, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2019 at the Halstad Living Center surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was born August 27, 1931 in Verona, ND, the daughter of Ibel and Alsena Nannenga. She grew up in the LaMoure area and attended schools there. Grace was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Merle Haisley, on September 20, 1952 in Verona, ND. The couple resided in LaMoure, ND and later moved to Hillsboro, ND, where they have lived for the past 59 years. There they raised their 3 children. Grace worked at Hocking Dental, LaMoure, ND, Hillsboro Elementary School and American Crystal. She was later employed by the Hillsboro Nursing Home in the dietary department until her retirement. Grace was passionate about cooking and gardening. Her gardening sometimes even got competitive with her neighbors. She also loved being with her family, enjoying the many activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Merle, Hillsboro, ND; children, Gale (Wendy) Haisley, Andover, MN; Gary (Tanzy) Haisley, Detroit Lakes, MN; Elaine (Mark) Erickson, Grand Forks, ND, brother, Fred (Lenoma) Nannenga, LaMoure, ND, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings and a great-granddaughter. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 204 E Caledonia Ave., Hillsboro, ND. A reception will be held following the church service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be held at a later date in LaMoure, ND.

    I am sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing, Elaine. Your mom was an amazing woman who could do most anything! I can still hear her down-playing a compliment to one of the feats she accomplished, knowing full-well I could never do anything remotely like that!   5. To Merle and family: We are sorry to learn of Grace’s death. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed by many. It is a comfort to know where her soul went upon her passing. Take care, Merle; you were such a devoted husband and that was so obvious to those of us that personally know you.

    Our thoughts are with all of you at this time of loss. Grace was a wonderful person, some of our best memories are living next door to you guys. Both of you were like parents to Darrel and I and grandparents to our 3 boys! We always felt blessed to get to know you.

  9. I’m sorry to hear about Grace’s passing. I really enjoyed knowing Grace when I moved to Hillsboro years ago. She always had a kind word and with Merle, they were a sweet couple to watch. I will miss her.
