H. Berdean Smette

H. Berdean Smette Buxton, North Dakota Berdean Smette, a life long resident of Buxton, ND, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the Hillsboro Medical Center following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 84. Berdean was born on May 30, 1922, the son of Lars and Bertha Smette on the family farm near Buxton, ND. He grew up and received his education in Buxton. At an early age Berdean began working on the family farm and continued farming as a 3rd generation farmer on his great grandfather?s homestead. He was united in marriage to Lou Kozerski in September of 1973. Berdean was very active in his community where he served 9 years as president of the Town and Country Senior Citizens Club; served many years on the Grantee Board, the Traill County Council; the Ervin Township Board; and also was on the Highland Lutheran Church Cemetery Board. Berdean is survived by his loving wife, Lou of Hillsboro; his stepsons, Jerry (Sherree) Niepomnik of Spokane, WA; and Christopher (Marianna) Niepomnik of Lake Zurick, IL; his daughter in law, Betty Kozerski of Casa Grande, AZ; his six grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Berdean is also survived by his brother, Harvey (Helen) Smette of Buxton; his sister, Lillian Ludwig of Hillsboro; and two very special nephews, Michael and Roger Smette. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Harold Kozerski; and his brother in law, Wally Ludwig.
