Obituary

Harley R. Swanson, 79, of Fargo, ND died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in Sanford Palliative Care.

Harley was born February 20, 1937 in Breckenridge, MN. He grew up on a farm outside of Fairmount, ND and graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955. He earned his Master of Science from NDAC.

He married Sharon Ann Scheidegger on May 28, 1960.

Harley worked in Plant Science Research for the USDA until he retired in 2000. He was very curious about the world and loved sharing his passions. He did this most notably with his children and grandchildren through frequent camping and exploring expeditions throughout the western US.

Harley is survived by his wife, Sharon, son Kevin (Doreen) Swanson, daughter Kristin (Doug) Bakkum and grandchildren Nicole Swanson, Sarah Swanson, Eric Swanson, Amy Bakkum and Dan Bakkum, sister Gloria (Myron) Reese and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Harley and Mabel Swanson, brother Tom (Cynthia) Swanson.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Harley at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Boulger Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Refreshments following.

    Sorry very sorry to hear of the loss of Harley. As a handball player I enjoyed years of companionship with Harley both on and off the court. Even after he stopped playing we shared the same space at the Y. He often talked of his trips down the Colorado River with family. He really fought hard to fend off his cancer. I will miss him. Am on the east coast next Saturday. Sorry to miss the celebration of his life. Dick Reis
