Harold "Eric" Swisher

“Eric” Harold Swisher, age 65, passed away December 29, 2016, at Sanford Health in Fargo. Eric was born December 20, 1951 in Jacksonville, IL to Herold and Erna (Erickson) Swisher. The family moved to Fargo in 1962. Eric attended Clara Barton, Central before graduating from Fargo South. He was active in the theater program at school helping with the lighting. He also befriended Fred Herman and helped turn wrenches on Fred’s race car. After school he joined the U.S. Navy doing anti-sub warfare. He retired from the Navy in 1976 and worked for the railroad as a signal director for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed walleye fishing in Lake of the Woods and Warroad, as well as fly-fishing in Montana. He is preceded in death by his parents Herald and Erma. Eric is survived by his sister, Allyson Hustal of Fargo.

  1. Many great memories of Eric when he worked with us at Straus in the shoe department. After he moved on he would always stop in and visit. He always had great stories.

  3. Eric and I had a long conversation a few years ago about health. He gave me good advice in dealing with it, and I considered him a friend. We worked together at Straus Clothing, and he was always had an upbeat attitude.

  4. Sorry for the loss, Eric was a interesting person to talk to, got to know him from hanging out in the Bsmt Bar of the Northern. He always came up and licked my face.

  5. Best food I ever had was at Erics house. Wish we could of seen each other more in the past years. Will miss you.

  14. I was googling to find his phone number to see how he is doing, and this came up.Sad. He was a true friend to me, and he helped me buy my business. I have not seen him in 6 years, due to an injury…wish we could talk one more time. Thank you for the great memories, Eric.

  15. Condolences to Allison and the family. I new Eric’s parents Harold and Erna and they were my host family when I attended NDSU in the late 60’s. They were a gracious and hospitable family and his father was a dedicated volunteer at their church. I spoke with Eric a few years after his parents had passed away and he was working for the railroad at that time. He had said at that time that Allison had moved somewhere to the North of Fargo and was doing well.
