Helen Anna (Hoffman) Stigen

Helen Stigen, 83, of Hillsboro passed away Monday March 5, 2007 at the Hillsboro Nursing Home.
Helen Anna Hoffman was born to Charles and Margaret Hoffman on December 3, 1923 in Baltimore, MD. She married Deane Stigen on April 16, 1946 in Baltimore, MD. Soon after they were married they moved to Caledonia, ND. She was busy raising the family during these years as they moved between Shelly, MN and Hunter, ND finally settling in Moorhead, MN in 1956. She worked in various restaurants, St. Ansgar?s Hospital in food preparation. She was a bookkeeper for their family business, Stigen Tire. In 1975 they moved to Jamestown, ND. Helen worked as a caregiver at the Anne Carlson School. After 5 years they moved to Denver, CO and Helen was active in a house cleaning business with her daughters. They lived there for 5 years before returning to Hillsboro, ND in 1987.
Helen enjoyed reading but loved being a homemaker more than anything. She had a gift for making it look easy, she was known for her cooking and baking. Whatever goodies she prepared she generously shared them with neighbors and friends. In fact, she was friendly to everyone and loved to visit with a tendency to call everyone ?hon?. She dearly loved children and small animals.
Helen is survived by her children, Helen Whitmore of Baltimore, MD; Olivia Zeller of Strum, WI; Suzanne (August) Klinnert of Hillsboro, ND; Jeanne Stigen of Hillsboro, ND; Deanne Schmidt of Morrison, CO; Thomas (Jan) Stigen of Simi Valley, CA; Joanne (Michael) Richardson of Sand Point, ID; grandchildren, Susan Baker; Douglas Tollefson; Thomas Klinnert; Justin and Andrew Lemke; Gabriel, Anna, and Alexander Stigen; Deanne Ramsey; Josiah, John, Michael, Samuel, Lucas, Suzanne, and Katherine Richardson; six great grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Antlitz of Baltimore, MD; Raymond (Louise) Hoffman of Baltimore, MD.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Deane; her parents; siblings, Charles Hoffman; Thomas Hoffman; Ruth Fitch; Shirely Scardena; and Gloria Hoffman.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
