Helma A. Sauvageau, age 97 of Fargo, died Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo under the care of Hospice.
Helma was born to Oliver and Hilene (Burgeson) Nystul on June 5, 1908. She was the first born in a family of nine children and grew up on a farm near Leonard, ND.
Helma was always a good cook, feeding many a threshing crew on farms in her early life. She married Ben Skrove in 1932. They lived in Horace and later moved to Leonard in 1934, where she worked as a telephone operator. They moved to Fargo in the 1940s and she was employed as a waitress and cook in many local restaurants. Her first husband died in 1968. She then married Vernus Holty and in the early 1980s married Uclid Sauvageau. After his death she lived at University Manor in Fargo and was a senior volunteer, receiving many awards, until she was 96. She entered Villa Maria Nursing Home in January 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Schaff of Moorhead, MN; son, Lynn (Jan) Skrove of Fargo; brother, Leo (Gladys)Nystul of Las Vegas, NV; 4 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, September 19 in the Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday and also from 2-4 pm on Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Helendale Cemetery, Leonard, ND.
