Herman B. Duchscher, 78, Fargo, ND, died Saturday, August 28, 2004, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo. He was born August 6, 1926, to Charles and Frances (Volk). He grew up on the family farm near Rugby, ND. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 and served in the Philippines during the Korean War and was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA, until his discharge in 1952. Herman married Florence A. Peters on August 6, 1951, in Fillmore, ND. After his discharge they moved to Fargo where they raised their two daughters. Herman was an avid reader, a faithful Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed spending time at the lake. He loved being with his family and grandchildren and was always good for telling a long story. He was kind and compassionate to everyone he met and his faith was an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Florence, and daughters, Nancy (Tom) Kasper and Renae (Wayne) Ham, all of Fargo; grandchildren Michael, David and Daniel Kasper, Samantha, Austin and Sara Laske, and Katie Ham. He is also survived by three brothers and five sisters; Chris, Fargo, Johanna (Ludwig) Hoffert, Rugby, ND, Carolyn VanRaden, Fargo, Catherine (Ken) Deeter, Tucson, AZ, Vernice (Bill) Knutson, Pauma Valley, CA, John (Bernie), Rugby, ND, Gus (Dorothy), Fargo, and Anna Mae (Russ) Bezanson, Minot, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, at Boulger Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, at Church of the Holy Spirit, with visitation starting at noon. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the Father John P. Smith Foundation, c/o Holy Spirit Church. We would like to thank the nurses and staff at the VA Medical Center for all the wonderful and loving care they provided to Dad during his stay there. We will be grateful to you forever.
