Howard Callahan

July 19, 1923 - April 25, 2013


Howard R. Callahan, 89, Fargo, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Villa Maria.

Howard was born July 19, 1923 in Williston, North Dakota to Sherman W. and Amy (Scott) Callahan.  He grew up in the Minot area where he attended public school.  Howard enlisted in the US Army in 1943 where he served in as quartermaster truck corps.  His tour took him to Europe.  He was discharged in 1945.  He returned to Minot.  Howard married Melba Klinner on September 13, 1951.  He worked for Keating Furniture for a while and then worked for Reinhart Brothers. They moved to Grand Forks for 3 years.  They moved to Fargo where he worked for Crane Johnson and for O’Day Equipment until they sold out and then for Wilson Sheet Metal and then P & H Supply, where he was part owner of P & H Supply.  Howard retired in 1981.

Howard enjoyed fishing and hunting, and some golfing.  He was active at St. Anthony’s Church and served on the finance committee.

He is survived by his wife Melba; children, Daughter, Mary (David) Huschka, Kindred, ND, Judy (Cliff) Hansen, Fargo, James (Reba) Callahan, Doyline, LA, Gail  (Bob) Bankers, Woodbury, MN, Linda (Dean) Krabbenhoft, Fargo, Thomas (Della) Callahan, Glyndon, MN, Paul (Janna) Callahan ), Fargo; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Clayton and Robert Callahan; 1 sister Helen Young; and 2 infant children Terry and Wendy.

    Melba, Mary & Callahan Family, I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.I have many good memories of him as I was growing up in Fargo. He will be missed by so many and dearly by the family who loved him so much! R.I.P. Buzzer!!
