Howard Ellingson

Howard A. Ellingson, 84, Fargo passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Sanford Health’s Palliative Care Unit, Fargo surrounded by his family.
Howard was born August 13, 1935 in Dent, MN to Philip and Viva (Loop) Ellingson. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict before being discharged in February, 1957. He married Shirley Barron on February 10, 1957 in Pueblo, CO.
He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 40 years, retiring in 1997. They lived in various cities throughout his working life with Goodyear, before making their final home in Fargo.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley, Fargo; children, Vickie (Gary) Pfleger, Rochester, MN, Phillip (Amy) Ellingson, Fargo, ND, Mark Ellingson, Eden Prairie, MN; 2 grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Pfleger, Andover, MN, Nicole Pfleger, Madison, WI; 2 great-grandaughters, Willa and Tessa Pfleger; siblings, Irene Walker, CA, Harold Ellingson, MN, Kenneth (Barb) Ellingson, MN, Merle (Sylvia) Ellingson, MN, Phyllis (Les) Gadow, MN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joyce Polkinghorn.
Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Boulger Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, Fargo.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

Uncle Howard was so very special to us. He was the most kindest person . He loved helping everyone in his path . From Fargo to other cities and Camden Arkansas. He’s family from there loved him too. We will miss our lil Diary Queen visits too.Memories were made and never can be taken away. Our God has picked out another pretty rose for his garden. He will be missed. May God comfort you and give you strength through this difficult time.Love to all

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ellingston family. I worked with Howard for three years @ Goodyear out of Minneapolis. Great guy, fond memories of him.
Howard was a great friend to all his Goodyear associates. We had a lot of good times together.
So sad to hear of Howard’s passing. He was a friend who always had a smile and positive outlook on life. Our condolences to Shirley and his family.

We have many great memories of Howard, always the life and spirt of gatherings! We met Shirley and Howard after joining Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo, in the mid 70’s. We attended many church related activities together such as progressive dinners, parties, hayrides, men’s club, church dinners, Easter breakfast, church softball and the list could go on. Howard had a magnetic, happy go lucky personality that Linda & I will always remember. His personality served him well in many ways and with out doubt in his chosen sales career.

I was so sorry to hear about Howard. He was a special neighbor and friend. He was also a friend of my dad Alvin who used to visit him when he and my mom would come from Third River Falls to visit me. He thought Howard was great and they enjoyed talking. We just visited Howard about three weeks ago and sat outside and reminesed and they talked about the old days and also about the difficulties of aging. Howard always had a beautiful yard and taught me a lot about caring for my yard and grass over the last 30 years that we have been neighbors. He was always willing to give advice about that as well as fatherly advice regarding business. He was an encourager and giving man. He used to dog sit my last dog when I couldn’t bring him with on a trip. I will miss him greatly as will my other neighbors and my dad and other family members that knew him. I’m sorry to have missed his memorial as I was out of town. My sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with Shirley and his family.
we knew Howard from the YMCA he was such a nice guy and he will be missed!!! He was fun too goof around with and joke around with. My dad knew Howard back many years ago when Howard would stop in Manatdor North Dakota. I met Howard’s Wife as well when she came too the Y too Swim or see them at Hornbachers or Walmart!!!!
