Howard Sgutt

Howard E. Sgutt, 80, Fargo, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo. Howard E. Sgutt was born to Julius and Sybil (Bank) Sgutt in Minot, North Dakota on April 2, 1929. He came to Fargo with his family at the age of 11. His family purchased Moody’s Department Store which became Sgutt-Moody’s and in the 1960’s moved to a new location due to urban renewal where it became Sgutt’s Women’s Ready to Wear. Howard lived in Fargo most of his life and retired from Sgutt’s in 1992. Howard E. Sgutt and Dorothy Ness were married in Fargo on August 2, 1996. El Zagel Shrine was a large part of Howard’s life. He was Potentate in 1982, a member of The Directors Staff, and held many positions in the Shrine including Circus Chairman, Football Chairman, and Director of the Temple. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, at home; his step-children, Wanda (Dennis) Patrick, Christine, ND, Mark (Diane) Ness, Underwood, ND, Craig Ness, Buxton, North Carolina, Curtis (Jan) Ness, Fargo, and Marie Loegering, Erie, ND; his 13 grandchildren, and his 3 great grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials preferred to Temple Beth El, Fargo or The Shriners Children’s Hospital The funeral will be at Temple Beth El at 2:00 p. m. on Monday.
