Howard Sharpe
August 19, 1953 ~ September 17, 2019
Howard passed away on September 17, 2019 at the University Medical Center Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, at the age of 66.
Howard Sharpe was born in Mayville on August 19, 1953 to Doug and Helen Sharpe.
On November 28, 1975 he married Karen Lundeby and together they had two sons, Brian and Matthew. Howard worked for American Family Insurance for 32 years in Dickinson. He was involved in Blue Hawk Boosters, Dickinson Park Board, Badlands Bowl and other various committees. He was an avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoyed golf and hunting, among many other activities. In 2017 he moved to Fargo for health reasons.
He is survived by his wife Karen of 44 years, sons Brian and Matthew of Boulder, CO, his mother Helen, sisters, Laura Norby and Karen Hamre.

He was a true gentleman and i enjoyed all the time’s Howard and i spent visiting about things that affected the Dickinson community and Dickinson State University….he was a rock. Howard and his family lived next to my Grandma and Grandpa Strand in Portland when we were kids. Mostly I remember playing with Laura, of course, but I remember Howard well. When I saw his picture, I could see the same eyes, great smile, and strong jaw of that young kid! It brought back fond memories. So sorry for the loss of this good man/Portland Pirate… peace and blessings to all his family, with special greetings to Helen and Laura. 💔
Howard and Karen have been our friends since high school. Howard and I were room mates
at MSU and Howard and Karen were in our wedding 46 years ago. Howard had the greatest
laugh and was always fun to be around. He never spoke bad about anyone and was always
kind to others. He loved adventure! We will miss you but we won’t forget you.
So sorry to hear of Howard’s passing. Howard was a good friend and neighbor. Our prayers go out to the Sharpe family.

Sending prayers of comfort to your family during this difficult time. Mr Sharpe did a lot for the community and was always friendly everytime I saw him.
Through 6 years of school in Portland I didn’t know men were allowed to be elementary teachers, until Howard showed up as student teacher for Mrs. June Karlstad. They made a great team, and we boys felt we’d won the lottery – a big tough football player to talk with between classes, and to play with us at recess. It was an impressionable semester, and it reignited my love of school. Small event in Howard’s life, but a huge event for a bunch of country boys in Portland. RIP
