Ira ?Tommy? Thompson, 81, Fargo, ND, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at his home.
Ira F. Thompson was born September 1, 1922, in Leonard, ND, to Elmer and Ida (Germanson) Thompson. The family farmed in the Leonard area, and later moved to Medina, ND. The family then moved to Sheldon, ND, where Ira attended Sheldon High School. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-45, and was stationed in the South Pacific. Following his military service, Ira moved to Fargo. He married Lillian D. Poliquin on April 29, 1950, in Fargo. He became a truck driver at Farmers Union Oil Company in Fargo, later known as Cenex. He retired from Cenex after 30 years of service to the company. Mrs. Thompson died on February 19, 2000.
He is survived by his children, Harold Thompson, Fargo, and Shirley Zimmerman, rural Motley, MN; two granddaughters, Cathy Smith of Hugo, MN; and Lisa O?Reilly of North Branch, MN; two great grandsons; and two sisters, Leona Olson, Leonard, and Ardis (Melford) Schobinger, Minot, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
