Irene Wanzek

Irene Wanzek, age 88, died Sunday April 10, 2016 surrounded by her family at Sanford Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, Irene Lorraine Schlenker was born March 26, 1928 near Gackle, ND where she grew up and attended school. She was the daughter of Gottfried and Olga Schlenker. Irene worked at Gienger’s Grocery Store in Gackle until 1949. She came to Fargo and worked at Leeby’s Grocery until 1955. She was a homemaker until 1975 when she started working at St. Luke’s Hospital until her retirement in March of 1998. She married Stanley Wanzek on February 15, 1955 at Windsor, ND and made their home in Fargo. She is survived by her husband Stanley; one daughter: Janet (Larry) Carlson, Moorhead, MN; three sons: Jeffrey (Paula) Wanzek, Battle Ground, Washington; Michael (Sheri) Wanzek, Fargo; and Steve Wanzek, Durango, CO; One sister: Marvel (Paul) Haag, Fargo; 2 granddaughters, 6 grandsons; 1 step-granddaughter; 2 step great-granddaughters; and 2 step great-grandsons. She is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother: Raymond Schlenker.
