Jack Kapel

jack kapel

Jack passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at his home in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River. For the past 10 years, Jack had fought a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

Jack was born on January 8, 1940, the son of Ignace and Ida (Siden) Kapel, in Chicago, IL. He grew up in this area and moved with his family to Minneapolis, MN where he graduated from High School. Jack and his family moved to Fargo where they owned the Waldorf Bar in downtown Fargo. Jack and Rae Gillerstein were marreid in August of 1963, and they had two sons, Marc and Mike.  Jack was involved in the trucking industry for over 30 years – most recently with Johnson Trailer Sales in Fargo. Jack was united in marriage to Sandi Melby on July 1, 1991 and they have made their home in Fargo since that time.

Throughout the years, Jack was an avid hunter and loved the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was involved with a Sprint Car Racing Team in his younger years.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sandi of Fargo; his children – Marc (Diana) Kapel of Fargo, Mike (Katie) Kapel of Moorhead, MN, and Christie Hagans of Fargo; his grandchildren – Ben (Nicki) Kapel, Katie Kapel, Jake Kapel, Dakotah Kapel, Zack Walker, Daylon Melby, and Sahara Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Kapel. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to offer a very special thank you to Hospice of the Red River Valley, and to the caregivers at Sanford Health in Fargo for the exceptional care.
