Jack Stanley Nelson was born on July 15, 1929, the son of Rudy and Beryl (Boyd) Nelson near Horace, ND. He grew up in this area and graduated from West Fargo High School in 1947. After graduation he began working at the Stockyards in West Fargo. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until his discharge in 1954. After his discharge he returned to North Dakota and began farming with his father and brother on the family farm. Jack was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Pearson on October 4, 1958. They made their home on a farm near Davenport where they farmed for many years, retiring in 1983. During retirement, Jack kept very busy with many other jobs and hobbies. He most recently was working for the Travel Lodge in Moorhead for the past 10 years until the time of his death.
Jack and Barb loved their life on the family farm. He kept busy tending to his animals, driving his tractors, and working on many little projects around the farm. Jack was a longtime member of Norman Lutheran Church and a member of the VFW for over 50 years.
Jack is survived by his wife Barb; his three sons, Donald (Kim) Nelson of Moorhead, MN – and their children, Austin and Ben; Larry (Maribeth) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND – and their children, Breah and Bryce; and Dennis (Vicki Thorpe) Nelson of Davenport – and children, Dalton and Payton. Also surviving are his sisters, Jean (Milton) Burner; and Lora (Paul) Stark both of West Fargo, ND; his brother, Neil (Anne) Nelson of Colfax, ND; several nieces and nephews; and many other very dear relatives and in-laws.
