James L. Tibert "The Rock Man", 77, passed away on January 3, 2011. 

J.T. was born November 7, 1933 in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of Lawrence and Nora Tibert.  Following graduation from Grafton High School J.T. served 4 years in the Seabee's Construction Battalion of the United States Navy.  He then attended NDSU receiving a BS degree in Agricultural Economics.  J.T. took a job as an agricultural representative and insurance agent for the Bremer Bank in Grafton.  He worked for them from 1961 to 1988 when he opened J.T. Rock Shop in Fargo.  He was active in teaching lapidary  arts to youth in the area and assisted cub scouts in getting their geology merit badge.  J.T. was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, Bryan Tibert, a groundskeeper at Fargo South; girlfriend, Shirley Schaeffer, Dilworth.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Stotlman Tibert, sons, Greg, Jeff, and Tim, siblings, Jean Draxton, John "Budd" Tibert, Lois Costello, Marjorie Reade.

J.T. chose to gift his body to the deeded body program at the University of North Dakota.

    I knew JT well as my bookstore was near his shop. He was so friendly to everyone and soon he was talking philosophy. His work with the Cubscouts was stellar. My kids Pam and Jeff were sorry to hear of his death also.

    I’ve known the Tibert family many years. They were good people and kind.
    Tim helped my mom so much when she was alive. And he was best friends to my son. Jim was a wonderful and kind man. My thoughts and prayers are with Bryon. Coralee

  3. JT was a beautiful spirit. Full of so much love and very educational as well. I enjoyed our visits every time i visited his shop. He will truly be missed by this community. I was saddened to hear of his passing. However, we all know hes free now.
