James John Montplaisir, 70, 2106 45th Street North, Fargo, died Sunday, February 23, 2003, in his home under the care of his family and Hospice.
James was born December 17, 1932, in Horace, ND, the son of Arthur and Bertha (Rivard) Montplaisir. He grew up on a farm near Horace, and attended school at District 76, St. Benedict?s, and Horace. He worked on area farms. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He was united in marriage to LaVerne Hayek on June 29, 1957, in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND. James worked as a carpenter for the Fargo Veterans Affairs hospital from 1957- 1987. From 1958-1978, the couple lived in West Fargo. In 1977, James began building the family home where he currently lived.
He was an active member of the West Fargo VFW and Fargo Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends, and was known to tell a few stories.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; two sons, Steven (Dawn), Barnesville, MN, and Perry (Annette), Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Brenda Montplaisir (Mike Studebaker), Fargo, Lori (Ken) Karsky, Barnesville, and Jeanne (David) Wickman, Wallace, CA; seven grandchildren, Jason, Simone, Aaron, Annise, Bethany, Jakob, and Matthew; and one great grandchild, Stephanie. He is also survived by one brother, Walter (Dorothy) Montplaisir, Fargo; four sisters, Lorraine Beach, Hillsboro, Medrise (Jim) Johnson, Fargo, Kathleen Rasmussen, Fargo, and June (Sig) Thies, Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Leonard, Normand, and Virgil.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 :30 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 PM in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to West Fargo VFW, Fargo Knights of Columbus, and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
