James “Bill” William Murray, 83, West Fargo, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo. He was born on April 15, 1935 in Belcourt, ND. He was raised by his mother, Delphine, and his stepfather, Hassen Murray. Bill grew up in Dunseith, ND where he attended school. In 1954, Bill enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a machinist on the USS Antietam and USS Coral Sea. He earned the National Defense Medal for his service in the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge in 1962, Bill returned to Minot, North Dakota. He lived in Chicago while he attended transmission school. Bill also farmed with his older brother, Gary and step-father, Hassen. On May 18, 1985 he was united in marriage to Carol (Campbell) Morrison at Faith Hope Love Church in Moorhead. The couple made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Bill worked at Fargo Tank before starting his employment at Fargo Iron and Metal, now Gerdau Metals, for 20 years until his retirement. In 1985, Bill had started his journey in recovery and found Jesus Christ. He became an active member of Faith Hope Love Church and served as an usher for many years. Bill enjoyed fishing and liked to travel. He loved going on road trips. He liked watching westerns, and the weather and religious channels. Bill is remembered fondly for stopping by and sharing jokes with friends and relatives. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol; stepchildren, Allen (Tamara) Schmidt, Terry (Judi) Schmidt, Tracy Wang, and Deon Schmidt; siblings, 4 brothers and 3 sisters; 7 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, M.J. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother, Delphine Warren; father, Emies Darice and step-father, Hassen Murray; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
