James "Jim" Smith

Jim passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at his home in Fargo, surrounded by his loving family, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. James A. Smith was born on January 4, 1941, the son of Arthur and Alice (Grunenwald) Smith in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He grew up Moorhead, MN. Jim was united in marriage to Janice Marie Balliet on August 19, 1961 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their family. Jim worked for several Auto Body Shops in the area including W.W. Wallworks for over 32 years. Throughout the years he enjoyed spending time at Red River Valley Speedway where he worked as a flag man. He also loved spending time fishing, hunting, and golfing. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janice of Fargo; his children – James Smith Jr., of Fargo; Deb (Roger) DuBord of Fargo; Mike (Lisa) Smith of West Fargo, ND; his grandchildren – Tyson (Amanda) Smith, Garrett (Dani) Smith, Paige Smith, Chase DuBord, and Alex DuBord; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings – Orrie (Pat) Smith, Larry (Ursula) Smith, and Kenny Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Henry Smith; his sister, Carol Peltier; and his beloved dog, Pugsley. VISITATION: 5-7 PM Monday, November 18, 2019 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo – and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Monday at Boulger Funeral Home FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 AM Tuesday at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo BURIAL: Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo

Sad to hear of Jim’s passing but I know he is in a good place and was not living the life he wanted the last few years. He was a great man and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
