Jane D. Reff

jane d. reff
Jane (Conmy) Reff died gracefully on November 15, 2020, at home with her soulmate and husband, Jack Sunday, by her side. Jane was born in Fargo, ND, on December 4, 1942, to Edward Thomas “Tom” Conmy, Jr. and Doris (Nelson) Conmy. Jane grew up in the Clara Barton neighborhood. Both of the homes she grew up in still look much the same as they did when Jane lived there in the 40s and 50s. Jane graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1960 and then NDSU in 1964 with degrees in mathematics and education. Throughout her 38 years of teaching in the Fargo Public Schools, Jane touched many students’ lives. She was especially fond of her students at Woodrow Wilson High School where she “really learned how to teach.” After her retirement, Jane served for 17 years on the Fargo Public Schools Credit Union Board of Directors as Treasurer. Jane enjoyed many days away from the cold in Naples, FL, with family and friends. She especially loved the tropical plants and outdoor spaces that Naples offered. As a lifelong sports fan, Jane enjoyed NDSU football, the Minnesota Twins, and UND hockey. An avid reader, she always carried a book with her because “you never know when you’ll have to wait for someone.” Jane is survived by husband, Jack Sunday, children Mike Reff and Susan Reff (Mike Farrell) and grandson Johnathan, bonus children Curt Rogers, Casey Rogers, and Charlie Rogers, brothers David Conmy and Bruce Conmy (Lynette), sister-in-law Liz Anne (Quam) Conmy, and many nieces and nephews. Jane is preceded in death by her parents and eldest brother, Edward Thomas “Tommy” Conmy III. When it is safe to gather together, the family will have a public service to celebrate Jane. Arrangements through Boulger Funeral Home. Memorials to the Gladys Ray Shelter in Fargo, ND, or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Guestbook

  1. Jane Reff was my favorite teacher and gave me one of the best compliments of my life that I will never forget. She is a figure I recall distinctly when I reminisce about those formative years. I also truly enjoyed getting to know her as more than a teacher some years later as a patron at Duffy’s. What a blessing it was to know her.

  2. Jack and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Jane’s passing. She was the sweetest and will be missed.
    Take care,
    Brian & Michelle Johnson

  3. Jane was one of our favourite people in the whole world. We have spend winter vacations with Jack and Jane in Naples, FL for almost the last 10 years and sunsets and laughs will never be quite the same again. Jane, thank you for your wisdom, your smile, and our shared love of math and introducing us to the Bison! Rest easy, young lady.

  4. Jack so sorry to her that jane has passed away, she was a great person and will be missed by all. thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family

  5. Susan, Mike and Jack,
I worked with Jane for many years at South. She was easy to visit with, had a wonderful sense of humor and laughed easily. She worked hard in meeting the needs of her students and was a loyal member of the faculty. Know that my thoughts and prayers are for Jane and with you. May she rest in peace.

  6. Jane & Jacks families- Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Very fond memories of Jane, the entire Conmy family and Jack Sunday, not only professionally, but personally. She will be missed, but her legacy endures, due to the students and families that she touched through her life.

Both Jean and I are thinking of you all during this difficult time.

  7. Jack and family-

My condolences to you and your family. Jane was always a great conversationalist and she will be missed.

    Regards,

    Ben Stechmann

  8. Dear Jack and Family,

We are saddened by Jane’s passing. She was a dear, dear friend of many years. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed talking about our many fond memories. We send our sympathy.

  9. Jack, my heart flies out to you. Jane was one terrific teacher. She was also a warm and wonderful colleague to me when we worked together at FPS. I can still see the day that I saw the two of you together and you recognized that I was part of Selmer’s family. I don’t know who thought that was more fun – Jane, you, or me. What I do know is that that day I saw the most content and happy Jane I had ever seen. You were a blessing in her life. May wonderful memories surround you now. It is said that to “…love someone is to know their song, and when they can no longer sing, tosing it for them.” Keep singing, Jack. I and others will join in! Nancy J

  10. When 2 become one. It is plain too see how Jane became such a part of you Jack. May you and the entire family take rest, knowing that she is in a better place. Shalom
